Chipotle Chile Powder is made by finely grinding whole chipotle peppers. The “chipotle” (which translates to “smoked chili pepper”) is actually a jalapeno pepper that’s allowed to ripen on the vine to a deep red color before it’s smoked and dried. The approximate Scoville heat units (SHU) are 2,500-8,000 for this smoky Mexican favorite.
